Tours in China mostly start in Beijing or Shanghai. The classic route is Beijing, Xi'an and Shanghai, with the Longmen Grottoes near Luoyang and the canal towns of Suzhou and Tongli on the way. Longer tours go to Chengdu, to Guilin, Yangshuo and the Li River, or to Pingyao, Datong and the Hanging Temple in Shanxi; some reach Dunhuang and Turpan, or continue to Tibet.
